My Review of Edgar Allan Poe's "The cask of amontillado"
(Brief review of Edgar Allan Poe's short story the "The cask of amontillado")
The genre of the book is horror but for me it's not quite scary but it's quite suspense. Horror and suspense is different because horror is an intense feeling of fear, shock and disgust while suspense is am feeling of anxiety about what may happen. So for me the story is not quite horror but it has a little bit suspense in the story.
The text feature of the book is that it has a title. For me the title is a bit weird but it has a connection about the story which is nice. I notice that some of the text is in italic and bold, this is purposely done because it helps the reader to see the organization of the text and help the reader to see it clearly.
For me the structure of the book is order and sequence because I notice that the man named "montresor" doesn't like amontillado and begun to lure him little by little. So the word lure it correspond to the order and sequence to lure someone you have to trap him and by doing that you have to set him up step by step to successfully trap a person and because of that I concluded that the structure of the story is order and sequence.
The reading strategy that I used is reading actively When you're reading a document or book in detail, it helps
if you practice "active reading" by highlighting and underlining key
information, and taking notes as
you progress. (Mind
Maps are great for this). This emphasizes information in
your mind, and helps you to review important points later.
Doing this also helps you keep your mind focused on the
material, and stops you thinking about other things and that's the strategy I used to read this short story.
All in all it's a good story but a little bit weird for me I just don't get the sense out of it but a nice story.
